Entangled whales and dolphins suffer long after being cut free
Original: # News : # Whales and # dolphins tangled in # fishing gear can suffer for months or years from deep wounds, # infection
Conservation campaigners are warning that whales and dolphins entangled in fishing gear can endure months or years of suffering, from deep wounds and infection to exhaustion, even after they are freed. Animal rights groups are using the warning to renew calls for an end to practices they describe as cruelty at sea, urging people to support wildlife protection efforts.
Why now: Renewed campaigning by animal rights groups is drawing attention to the lasting harm fishing gear entanglement causes marine mammals.
