UN space chief urges closer global space governance cooperation
Original: International Astronautical Congress: UN space affairs chief calls for closer collaboration in space governance amid divisive global climate
At the International Astronautical Congress, the UN's chief of space affairs called for closer international collaboration on space governance, arguing that cooperation is needed despite a divisive global political climate. The appeal highlights growing concerns over managing space traffic, satellite orbits and the peaceful use of orbit as more countries and companies expand their activities beyond Earth.
Why now: The UN's appeal for cooperation at a major space congress comes as space activity grows and geopolitical divisions complicate shared governance.
