Waffle House Corrects Weather Channel's Hurricane Isaias Status Map
Original: Waffle House Corrects Weather Channel with Hurricane Isaias Status Map
Waffle House publicly pushed back on The Weather Channel after a broadcast showed an inaccurate status for its restaurants along the Southeast coast as Hurricane Isaias approached. The chain posted its own map with corrected openings and closures, and the exchange drew attention because the company's store operations are famously used by FEMA and emergency officials as an informal gauge of storm severity, known as the Waffle House Index.
Why now: The Waffle House Index is a well-known informal storm-severity gauge, so a public correction during an active hurricane quickly became a talking point.
