Trump Criticises Nobel Committee Over Prize for Navi Pillay
Original: Trump Blasts Nobel Committee Over Peace Prize to Navi Pillay
Donald Trump has publicly criticised the Norwegian Nobel Committee after it awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, the South African former UN human rights chief. Trump dismissed the decision, questioning Pillay's record, which stems from her role chairing a UN inquiry into the Gaza conflict that found evidence of war crimes. Supporters of the award defended Pillay's decades-long human rights career, while Trump's comments have reignited debate over the politicisation of the prize.
Why now: The Nobel Peace Prize announcement prompted an immediate, high-profile reaction from Trump amid ongoing controversy over the Gaza war
