A nature photographer has shared the remains of a hornet nest from the previous year, found in a largely hollow dead birch in a small floodplain woodland. By late winter, empty and partly scavenged honeycomb fragments lay beneath the tree. The image was submitted under the photo prompt 'geometric shapes in nature', drawing attention to the nest's intricate structure.
Why now: It fits a popular photo prompt celebrating geometric patterns found in nature, resonating with wildlife photography communities.
