Hegseth Orders Military Stand-Down Day for Voting
Original: Secretary Hegseth Orders Stand-Down Day for Military Personnel to Vote
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered a stand-down day allowing military personnel time to vote. Under the order, troops will pause routine training and duties to take part in elections, a step officials frame as supporting service members' access to the ballot. The directive is drawing attention to how the Pentagon balances operational readiness with civic participation among the armed forces.
Why now: A defence secretary ordering a service-wide stand-down day for voting is an unusual measure drawing attention during election season.
