Trade school graduates feel safer from AI than office workers
Original: I used to feel embarrassed about graduating from a trade school. But now my career is safe from AI.
A trade school graduate writes that they once felt embarrassed about their vocational education, but now see it as an advantage because hands-on trades are harder to automate with AI. As generative AI spreads through office and creative work, skilled trades like plumbing, electrical work and construction are increasingly seen as secure career paths, and vocational graduates say the stigma around their schooling is fading.
Why now: Widespread anxiety about AI replacing white-collar jobs is making vocational careers look newly attractive.
