Artemis II astronauts spot five meteor flashes on the moon
Original: Artemis II astronauts saw the flashes of 5 meteor impacts on the moon
The four astronauts aboard the Artemis II lunar mission observed five bright flashes caused by meteors striking the moon's surface during their flight around the far side. The sightings highlight how active the lunar environment remains, with small space rocks regularly hitting the airless moon, and offer a rare firsthand account from crews traveling beyond low Earth orbit.
Why now: Artemis II is a high-profile mission returning humans to the vicinity of the moon, so any firsthand observations from the crew draw wide attention.
