Lockheed Martin has unveiled the PAC-3 Edge, a new variant of its Patriot Advanced Capability-3 interceptor designed to counter hypersonic weapons. The announcement, reported by Military Times, underscores the growing urgency among Western defense contractors to field systems capable of tracking and intercepting fast, maneuverable missiles. The PAC-3 family is already a cornerstone of US and allied missile defense, so an upgrade targeting hypersonics carries significance for programs like the Patriot fleet.
Why now: Hypersonic weapons are a major current defense concern, and news of a purpose-built counter to them draws attention from defense watchers.
