Russian militants reportedly launch cross-border attack from Belarus
Original: Russian militants launch cross-border attack from Belarus as Minsk hosts ‘anti-terrorism’ forum: Security digest
Belsat reports that Russian militants carried out a cross-border attack launched from Belarusian territory, timed as Minsk hosted a forum billed as dedicated to fighting terrorism. The irony of an 'anti-terrorism' event coinciding with an incursion from Belarus is the focus of the security digest report. Independent confirmation of the attack and the militants' identities remains limited, and Belarusian authorities' response is unclear.
Why now: The reported attack undermines Belarus's claims of fighting terrorism and raises questions about its role in regional security.
