Why some young ants start hunting and caring early
Original: Why some young ants start hunting and caring for others early
New research explores why some young ants skip typical age-based roles and begin hunting prey and caring for colony mates earlier than usual. Scientists studying ant division of labour report that individual variation in task timing may depend on colony needs and developmental differences. The findings offer insight into how social insect colonies stay flexible, a topic of interest to biologists studying behaviour and evolution.
Why now: A newly published biology study on ant behaviour is drawing attention from science readers.
