Romano Prodi: Europe should see Africa as an opportunity

Former Italian premier and European Commission president Romano Prodi told RaiNews that Europe treats Africa as a problem when it should be seen as an opportunity. Speaking at an international cultural festival in Assilah on Morocco's Atlantic coast, he argued that water, energy and Africa's development should be central to European policy. His comments renew debate over the EU's migration and cooperation approach toward the continent.
Why now: Prodi's remarks at the Assilah festival challenge the EU's current framing of Africa, prompting discussion of European foreign and migration policy.
