Developer builds offline plant guide app to curb screen time

A developer has created Wander, an open-source plant identification guide built on Google's local Gemma AI model. The app runs on the phone itself, letting users identify plants on walks without an internet connection. The creator says the goal was to spend more time looking at plants and less time scrolling, and is sharing the project as part of an open developer challenge.
Why now: The project combines local AI, open-source software and digital wellbeing, themes currently drawing attention in developer communities.
