Pope Leo condemns death penalty after Trump approves livestreamed execution

Original: Pope Leo says death penalty is ‘inadmissible’ after Trump approves livestreaming execution https:// fed.brid.gy/r/https:

Pope Leo has declared the death penalty 'inadmissible', speaking out after President Trump approved the livestreaming of an execution in the United States. The pontiff's comments reinforce the Catholic Church's opposition to capital punishment and directly challenge the US administration's push to expand and publicise federal executions. The unusual combination of a religious condemnation and a televised killing has drawn wide attention.

Why now: The rare clash between the Pope and Trump over a livestreamed execution is highly controversial and timely.
