Baby orangutan rescued from Borneo wildfires
Original: animals
A baby orangutan has been rescued from wildfires burning in Borneo, Indonesia, in an operation captured on video and shared widely by Euronews. The rescue highlights the escalating destruction of the ape's forest habitat, much of it cleared for plantations and aggravated by seasonal fires. Conservationists have long warned that orangutan populations on Borneo are under severe pressure as their range shrinks.
Why now: The striking rescue footage and growing concern over habitat loss and wildfires in Indonesia are drawing attention to the orangutan's plight.
