Australia plans fox cull to save threatened wildlife
Original: ‘We cannot accept foxes as part of our landscape’: the plan to save Australia’s threatened wildlife
Conservationists in Australia are backing a plan to eradicate foxes, arguing the invasive predator cannot be accepted as part of the landscape. Foxes are among the main drivers of decline for the country's threatened native mammals and birds, and the proposal forms part of a broader strategy to protect endangered wildlife through targeted pest control.
Why now: Foxes are a major threat to Australia's native species, and the proposed eradication plan has drawn attention to how the country protects its endangered wildlife.
