Trump says Ukraine should get a new president
Original: Trump: Ukraine should get a new president, blames Zelenskyy for US diesel prices
Donald Trump has said Ukraine should hold a new presidential election, arguing Volodymyr Zelenskyy's term has expired, and blamed the Ukrainian leader for high diesel prices in the United States. The remarks drew attention because they echo Kremlin talking points questioning Zelenskyy's legitimacy and come as the US pushes for a settlement in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Why now: Trump's comments question the legitimacy of Ukraine's wartime leadership and align with Russian positions, making them highly controversial as peace negotiations are discussed.
