Donald Trump has declared that "it is time for Ukraine to have a new president", in comments reported as discussion of the country's wartime leadership intensifies. The statement touches on the political future of Volodymyr Zelensky at a sensitive moment in the war and in US-Ukraine relations, and is drawing reactions over American interference in another democracy's internal politics.
Why now: Trump's call for a change of leadership in Ukraine during an ongoing war is a striking and controversial intervention.
