Florida wildlife agency issues storm safety guidance for animal encounters
Original: WILDLIFE AND STORMS: What the FWC says to do if you encounter wild animals
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is advising residents on what to do if they come across wild animals during and after storms. Flooding and damaged habitat can displace wildlife, pushing animals like snakes, alligators and bears into residential areas. Officials urge people to keep their distance, avoid feeding or approaching animals, and report concerning encounters to the agency.
Why now: Storm season is raising concerns about displaced wildlife entering populated areas in Florida.
