Tories set Chancellor five Budget 'tests' on taxes
Original: Tories urge Chancellor not to raise tax in five Budget 'tests' https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/john-healey-budg
The Conservative Party has challenged Chancellor Rachel Reeves ahead of the UK Budget, setting out five 'tests' it says she must pass, chief among them a demand that taxes not be raised further. The challenge frames the forthcoming Budget as a measure of whether the Government can stick to promises on tax, borrowing and growth, with figures such as John Healey drawn into the debate over fiscal policy.
Why now: Speculation about the UK Budget's tax plans is intensifying as the statement approaches.
