Sightings of Hatta fugitive surge in Kanto area
Original: 八田容疑者
Reports of suspected sightings of Yohachi Hatta, the fugitive wanted over the fatal hit-and-run in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, have surged in the Kanto region, bringing the cumulative number of tips to roughly 14,000. Authorities have extended a special reward for information as the months-long manhunt continues without an arrest.
Why now: A sharp spike in reported sightings in the Tokyo area suggests the long-running fugitive hunt may be nearing a breakthrough.
