HRC president says Democrats caving on trans rights won't help them politically
Original: HRC president says Democrats caving on trans rights aren’t actually helping themselves
The president of the Human Rights Campaign argues that Democrats who concede ground on transgender rights are not improving their political standing. The comments come amid ongoing debate within the party over how to respond to Republican messaging on trans issues, with the nation's largest LGBTQ advocacy group warning that retreat only emboldens opponents rather than winning over voters.
Why now: Democrats are publicly divided over whether compromising on transgender rights is a viable electoral strategy.
