Denmark's CPR national registry, covering roughly 8.8 million personal ID numbers, was exposed in a breach traced to Pays ApS, a small IT firm in Odense with registry access. The firm reportedly used the password '123456' on at least three accounts, including an admin one, and the intrusion ran 21 days from 10 September via a former employee's credentials.
Why now: The sheer scale of exposure of Danish citizens' personal data and the trivially weak password behind it are drawing widespread alarm.
