A new open-source, single-file desktop application lets people repurpose an original Kinect v1 sensor from the Xbox 360 as a 3D scanner. The software revives hardware many users still have in drawers, and the project is being shared among maker and coding communities interested in cheap scanning tools and accessible, inclusive hardware hacking.
Why now: Makers are interested in repurposing cheap, widely available old Kinect hardware as a low-cost 3D scanner.
