Posts claim mass protests are taking place across Italy after the government of Giorgia Meloni allegedly failed to act on ten Italians said to have been kidnapped near Greece by forces linked to Israel's government. The reports accuse Meloni of prioritising ties with Israel over Italian citizens. The claims are circulating widely on social media, but no official confirmation from Italian authorities has been verified.
Why now: An unverified claim accusing Meloni's government of abandoning kidnapped citizens is spreading rapidly, tapping into anger over Italy's Israel policy.
