FAO promotes backyard poultry farming in Afghanistan
Original: Backyard poultry: Linking nutrition, livelihoods and animal health in Afghanistan
The Food and Agriculture Organization is highlighting backyard poultry programmes in Afghanistan that connect better nutrition, household incomes and animal health. Keeping small flocks gives rural families a source of eggs and protein while providing women and vulnerable households with a modest but reliable income, and FAO is pairing this with vaccination and basic veterinary support to keep the birds alive and productive.
Why now: The FAO has released new material showcasing how backyard poultry supports nutrition and livelihoods in Afghanistan.
