Original: osthessen

Northern Germany was treated to an unexpected display of polar lights, with the aurora borealis glowing vividly over the Baltic Sea. NDR reported on the autumnal surprise, and readers shared photos and reactions to the rare sight so far south. Displays like this typically follow strong solar activity, drawing crowds to coastlines and clear-sky spots across the region.

Why now: A rare visible aurora over northern Germany is unusual and highly shareable, driving widespread local interest.
