Trump calls for Ukrainian election, blames Zelenskyy for war
Original: Trump calls for Ukraine election, says Zelenskyy failed to end war
Donald Trump has called for Ukraine to hold elections and accused President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of failing to end the war with Russia. The remarks deepen Trump's long-running criticism of the Ukrainian leader as Washington pushes for a negotiated settlement. The comments are drawing sharp reaction, with critics arguing that wartime elections would be destabilising and that the remarks echo Kremlin talking points about Zelenskyy's legitimacy.
Why now: Trump's renewed attack on Zelenskyy lands amid ongoing US-led efforts to negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war.
