CDU votes help AfD in Saxony-Anhalt state parliament

Original: Dass die vier fehlenden Stimmen für die AfD in Sachsen-Anhalt von der CDU kommen, überrascht kaum. CSU-Vize Manfred Webe

In Saxony-Anhalt, four votes missing for an AfD initiative reportedly came from the CDU, drawing criticism that the Union is drifting closer to the AfD. Commenters point to a statement by CSU vice-president Manfred Weber as a sign of where the centre-right is heading, accusing the party of abandoning politics for ordinary people. The episode has reignited debate over cooperation with the far-right party at state level.

Why now: The reported CDU support for an AfD move in Saxony-Anhalt fuels ongoing controversy over the Union's stance toward the far right.
