Original: IRCv3 https://ircv3.net/ # HackerNews # Tech # IRC
Discussion is circulating around IRCv3, the ongoing effort to modernise the Internet Relay Chat protocol with extensions such as better client capability negotiation, message tags and improved reliability features. The project's specifications are hosted at ircv3.net, where developers document backward-compatible enhancements intended to bring older chat infrastructure closer to modern messaging standards.
Why now: Tech communities are revisiting IRC's modernisation efforts, likely sparked by renewed interest in open, decentralised communication protocols.
