Over 100 migrants dead in boat wreck off Djibouti
Original: djibouti
The UN says 109 migrants have died after a boat sank off the coast of Djibouti. The vessel, reportedly carrying migrants attempting to cross the Gulf of Aden toward the Arabian Peninsula, went down with heavy loss of life. Djibouti is a key transit point on the migration route from the Horn of Africa, where boats are frequently overcrowded.
Why now: The large death toll in a single shipwreck on a busy migration route is drawing international attention and searches for details.
