Original: UN Human Rights office calls racist abuse directed at Coco Gauff ‘appalling’
The UN Human Rights Office has called racist abuse directed at American tennis star Coco Gauff 'appalling'. The condemnation comes after the young Grand Slam champion was targeted with racist messages, drawing widespread attention and support. The UN's intervention underscores growing concern over the online abuse faced by Black athletes and pressure on tennis authorities and social media platforms to act.
Why now: The UN's rare public condemnation of abuse aimed at a top athlete has put a spotlight on racism in sport.
