Plastic bags cannot go in household recycling bins
Original: Plastic bags can’t go in household recycling bins – here’s what to do instead
Guidance is reminding households that plastic bags and soft plastic film should not be placed in kerbside recycling bins, as they jam sorting machinery at recycling facilities. Instead, people are advised to return carrier bags and flexible plastic packaging to supermarket collection points, which accept these materials for dedicated recycling streams.
Why now: Households routinely misjudge which plastics are recyclable, so practical guidance on soft plastics is getting fresh attention.
