Sandia National Labs faces shortage of skilled machinists
Original: Sandia needs skilled machinists, but training is scarce
Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico is struggling to recruit skilled machinists, with the Albuquerque Journal reporting that the specialized training pipelines needed to supply this workforce have grown scarce. The shortfall matters because precision machining is critical to the lab's nuclear weapons and national security work, and the shrinking availability of technical programs makes hiring increasingly difficult.
Why now: Labor shortages at a key national security lab raise concerns about nuclear weapons production capacity.
