A programmer has ported Super Mario 64 to Microsoft's Zune HD, the 2009 media player that failed to dent the iPod's dominance. The game reportedly runs natively on the device's Nvidia Tegra chip, complete with touchscreen controls and save support. The unlikely pairing of a cancelled hardware platform and Nintendo's classic platformer is drawing amused attention from gaming and retro-tech fans.
Why now: The absurd nostalgia of a cult-favourite failed device running a beloved Nintendo game surprises and delights tech and gaming communities.
