A69 motorway opponents vow to fight other 'ecocide' projects
Original: autoroute
France is inaugurating the A69 motorway between Toulouse and Castres after a long-running protest battle. Opponents, who lost their fight against the road, say the struggle will serve those who come after, and plan to draw lessons from their defeat to combat other projects they describe as 'ecocidal'. The dispute made the A69 a symbol of tensions over infrastructure and the environment in France.
Why now: The A69's inauguration is a milestone in a high-profile environmental protest that ended in defeat for opponents.
