Halloween Spider Web Decorations Can Trap and Kill Bats, Experts Warn
Wildlife experts are warning that artificial spider web decorations put out for Halloween can ensnare bats and other small animals, leaving them trapped, injured or dead. Outdoor fake cobwebs can tangle the wings and bodies of bats flying at night, and campaigners are advising people to remove decorations overnight or avoid hanging them near trees and bushes where wildlife is active.
Why now: Seasonal Halloween decorating is widespread, and the warning highlights an unexpected danger to wildlife at the time of year when these decorations are everywhere.
