FCC Speed Test app pitched as a tool to close digital divide
Original: Using the FCC Speed Test app could help close the digital divide
Mashable reports that the FCC's Speed Test app could play a role in narrowing the digital divide. The free app lets users measure their internet speeds, and aggregated data could help officials map where broadband service is inadequate, guiding funding and infrastructure decisions to underserved communities.
Why now: Broadband access and accurate coverage mapping are active policy debates in the US, and better speed data could influence how federal internet funding is directed.
