UK PM says Russia clearly interfered in Brexit referendum
Original: PM says it is 'clear' Russia interfered with Brexit referendum
The UK prime minister says it is 'clear' that Russia interfered in the 2016 Brexit referendum, arguing voters were not sufficiently informed about how foreign actors sought to disrupt British democracy. The comments renew debate over the scale of Russian meddling and how successive governments have responded to findings on electoral interference.
Why now: The prime minister's explicit claim that Russia meddled in the Brexit vote is a striking intervention in a long-running controversy over UK election integrity.
