Chicago-area college asks Flock to remove cameras; company refuses
Original: A Chicago-area college told Flock to remove its cameras. The company refused
A college in the Chicago area asked surveillance company Flock to remove its automated license plate cameras from campus, aiming to protect immigrant students from immigration enforcement, but Flock refused to take them down. The standoff raises questions about who controls camera networks and whether campuses can opt out once equipment is installed.
Why now: Fears that license plate reader data could be used for immigration enforcement are growing in the Chicago area.
