DOJ investigating five major TV networks over White House press ban response
Original: DOJ investigating 5 major TV networks over response to White House press ban
The Department of Justice has opened an investigation into five major US television networks over their coordinated response to the White House press ban. The probe follows reports that the networks jointly refused to sign a new Pentagon press policy that would restrict outlets refusing to agree to reporting guidelines. The move escalates the administration's ongoing dispute with major news organisations over press access.
Why now: The Justice Department targeting major broadcasters over a press freedom dispute raises fresh concerns about government pressure on the media.
