Hochschule Kaiserslautern is advertising a professorship that does not require a habilitation, according to a report by Homburg1. The move highlights an ongoing debate in German academia over whether the habilitation should remain a prerequisite for professorships, with some universities increasingly open to alternative qualification paths. The recruitment is drawing attention among academics and education commentators in the region.
Why now: Hiring professors without the traditional habilitation challenges a long-standing norm in German higher education.
