NASA Selects Gimli Mission to Explore Lunar Cave

Original: The Moon Mission That's a High-Tech Cave Hunt

NASA has chosen the Gimli mission to investigate the Marius lunar pit, a deep hole on the Moon's surface that may lead to a cave system. The mission aims to determine whether such underground formations could shelter a future lunar base, offering protection from radiation and extreme temperatures. The concept of living in lunar caves is gaining attention as space agencies plan long-term human presence on the Moon.

Why now: Interest in lunar exploration and potential base sites is growing as NASA advances its Moon plans.
