Fossil fuels off COP31 agenda as global output keeps rising
Organisers of the COP31 climate summit have left fossil fuels off the official agenda, even as global production of coal, oil and gas continues to climb. The decision has drawn criticism from climate advocates who argue that limiting the COP process without addressing the root driver of emissions undermines the talks' credibility.
Why now: The exclusion of fossil fuels from the agenda contrasts sharply with rising global output, sparking debate over the summit's effectiveness.
