North Korea fires multiple ballistic missiles towards the sea
North Korea launched multiple ballistic missiles towards the sea, according to Al Jazeera reporting. The test adds to a string of missile launches by Pyongyang, which has continued weapons development despite United Nations Security Council prohibitions. South Korean and Japanese authorities typically monitor such launches, and the latest firing is likely to draw criticism from the UN, the United States and regional governments.
Why now: North Korea's missile tests raise regional security tensions and draw international condemnation, making them newsworthy whenever they occur.
