Russian forces attacked multiple Ukrainian power plants, according to a Ukraine war briefing dated 12 October 2026. The strikes came shortly after Donald Trump claimed progress toward an energy-focused ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. The attacks undercut the idea that any truce on energy infrastructure was holding, and observers are questioning whether negotiations can curb strikes on Ukraine's grid as winter approaches.
Why now: The strikes directly contradict Trump's claim of an energy ceasefire, highlighting doubts about peace negotiations.
