New data shows US software development job postings rose nearly 15% since February 2025, driven largely by senior-level and AI-oriented roles. Even as AI automates code writing, demand persists for oversight and integration skills. However, early-career employment fell about 20%, raising concerns about how new developers will enter the industry as companies shift hiring toward experienced workers.
Why now: The contrast between overall job growth and a sharp drop in entry-level hiring feeds ongoing debate about AI's impact on tech careers.
