Huge Plasma Cloud From the Sun Is Headed Toward Earth
Original: A Blob of Plasma 1000x The Size of Earth Will Soon Hit Us...
Geophysicist Stefan Burns is warning that a massive blob of solar plasma, roughly 1,000 times the size of Earth, is on course to strike our planet in the coming days. The eruption is expected to trigger geomagnetic disturbances, with discussion centering on possible impacts to power grids, satellites and radio communications, as well as the chance of strong auroras at unusually low latitudes.
Why now: Space weather alerts about an incoming coronal mass ejection are drawing wide attention because of potential effects on technology and aurora sightings.
