A monarch butterfly tagged in Winnipeg has been found in Mexico, marking the first time a butterfly tagged in the city has completed the full migration, according to an expert. The journey of several thousand kilometres is being noted as a remarkable example of monarch migration, a species whose populations have faced decline in recent years.
Why now: The rare documented completion of a full monarch migration from Winnipeg to Mexico is a striking natural feat amid concern over declining monarch populations.
