Chuck Schumer's Senate leadership future may hinge on midterms
Original: Chuck Schumer has broad support from his caucus, but midterms could decide his future as leader
Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer retains broad support within his caucus, but his grip on the top job could hinge on the outcome of the upcoming midterm elections. A poor showing for Democrats would likely intensify internal pressure on the New York senator to step aside, while a strong performance would strengthen his position at the head of the party in the Senate.
Why now: Attention is focused on whether upcoming midterm results will determine whether Schumer remains Senate Democratic leader.
